Grayson Bennett is here
Dear Friends and Family,
Our little boy Grayson Bennett Porter was born last Saturday morning,
September 8th at 12:51 am. He weighs 7 pounds 4 ounces and is 19.5
inches long.
We are sorry we haven't been able to visit with so many of you due to
some minor complications with Grayson's health. We wanted so many of
you to come to the hospital and see him right away, but Grayson needed a
little extra special treatment.
When he was born his heart and respiration rates were rather high. Most
of the day Saturday was spent trying to find a reason for that. We
learned the next day that his bilirubin levels were a little higher than
desirable (causing his jaundice), and so he spent all day Sunday in the
nursery under lights. He only came out to be fed. We finally got to
take Grayson home late Sunday night.
Monday was spent keeping track of feeding times and dirty diapers, in an
effort to determine if his little body was getting rid of that excess
bilirubin on its own.
We took him to the hospital lab this morning and had more blood drawn.
His bilirubin levels were still high. So starting at 5 PM this
afternoon Grayson will spend the next 24 hours under portable bilirubin
lights. We are hoping this takes care of the problem and he won't have
to be hospitalized.
Despite these little hiccups we are so excited that the 9 month wait is
finally over and our little boy is here. At only three days old he is
the center of our world and has brought an unexplainable joy to our
lives. No doubt the past few days have been stressful and not without
its challenges, but we are so grateful that Grayson was able to come
home with us and hasn't needed a lengthy hospital stay. He's a tough
little guy that has been through quite a bit, but still a very happy and
sweet baby.
Thank you so much for all of the phone calls, emails and best wishes.
